Cause for Concern

We had a bit of a set back this weekend which has given us cause for concern.

  1. Kelly's wound has been dry since she's been home but we noticed some bleeding on the dressing yesterday - called the district nurse out this morning and she changed the dressing. The wound is weeping and there is some swelling but no infection. This unfortunately will have a knock-on effect in that she won't be able to have her stitches removed tomorrow when we see the surgeon. Plus she won't be able to get into the pool to start her hydro, which she is so desperately wanting to do.
  2. The pain in the right leg is not going.... yes we've had a couple of good days where pain hit a low of 4 but last night and today it's gone back up to 9!
Kelly is v.down and upset today - she doesn't know if what is happening to her is the 'norm' and she is now starting to worry that she may have to undergo another procedure to fix the pain in her leg. I'm hoping that our meeting with the surgeon tomorrow will reassure us that all is OK and that what she is going through is the 'norm'. That will put us both at ease.

Good Luck tomorrow with the surgeon. You know nerve damage can take a wee while to sort it self out. Everything has to re-route itself. I suppose the good thing could be that all the while you have leg pain, your back is resting and healing. The body works in funny ways. Flippin unfair you have to have any pain at all though. No wonder you're feeling fed up - we all think you you're bloody marvellous.

Hi Kelly

Just read Vics blog on the pain in your leg - judging by my friends op - this is totally normal and she had exactly the same feeling that it was never going to go away but it has. When she asked her surgeon about it - he reminded her that she had just had a major op and the body takes time to adjust so totally put her in her place but also put her mind at ease. She did say that after physio of about 6 weeks - the leg felt totally different as the guy concentrated on this for her to build the muscle up again.

Hope this helps

Lou

So sorry to hear of this Kelly, wishing you the best and that you have some good news from the surgeon. Sometimes after what you have already been through, this may take a little longer for you. All the best. Laura
